MICKY Adams left his role as the Tranmere manager by mutual consent with just two games of the season remaining.

Rovers suffered a fourth consecutive defeat on Saturday, leaving them bottom of League Two and two points adrift of safety.

The assistant manager, Alan Rogers, and academy manager Shaun Garnett will take temporary charge of first-team affairs.

At a press conference at Prenton Park on Monday, Garnett said they hope to "perform a minor miracle" and keep Rovers in the league.

He said: "We know how important Saturday is. We're focussing on the task in hand - which is to get a result at Plymouth.

"We're going there with just one focus - to come away with a fighting chance.

"Alan and I will pick a team that can salvage us something from the game.

"We've been in since very early this morning looking at different ways to get the best out of the players.

"We think we've come up with a cunning plan.

“Hopefully, we can perform a minor miracle and keep us in the league."

Reflecting on Adams' sudden and unexpected departure, Rogers said: "Micky came in at a difficult time with a difficult job. We've got a squad of 20 players, so there's no white charger coming over the hill for us, as Micky used to say.

"However, the fans have been unbelievable.

"The club's been in decline for a long time and they've suffered.

"Our hope is to give them something to cling on o at Plymouth and take them through to the last game.

"That's our aim. We want to go into the last game with something to fight for."

Garnett added: "We've spoken to the players this morning and they realise it's a very important game and they will have to deal with the pressure of that.

"It's not about me or Alan in this situation, it's about the club.

"It's a massive club with a massive history."
