On the same day, the Wallasey Association's Harold Jones tournament saw yet another exciting and very closely fought final between the two teams who have tended to dominate this event over the last few years.

Last year, West Kirby Victoria won, beating New Brighton Queens Royal by just one shot and this year the margin of victory for the Deeside Club was also very close.

West Kirby were given an 18-point start but after three wins in the first four Queens Royal had levelled the score.

The match remained tight throughout but at the end the 'Vics' had held on to win by just 4 shots. For West Kirby Neil Sherbrooke top scored with a 21-08 win while for Queens Royal Craig Saville also won 21-08.

The Wallasey Association's Division Two  Individual Merit, the Wallasey Chronicle Silver Shield, and the Division Three  Individual Merit, the Hampson Shield, were both played in Central Park on Sunday.

In the semi-finals Sadler beat last year's winner, Chris Morrison  of Sandridge, 21-17 while Potter had a good win over the Bronze's Tom Cummin's 21-13.

In a tremendous final Sadler just had the edge over his young opponent and eventually claimed the trophy with a 21-19 win.

The winner of the third division tournament was John Joy of the Great Float who beat his team mate, Vic Williams, in the final.

In the semi-finals Joy beat Julie Dunn of Marine Park 'B' while Williams just scraped through against Malcom Dunn, also of Marine Park.

The final brought together the two players who top the third division averages and it was Joy who prevailed with a 21-13 win.
