THE Wallasey Association side gained promotion to a higher division in the Federation National League for the second successive year after drawing in their match with South Lakes on Sunday

Though the away team struggled on a tricky green at the Skerton Liberal Club in Lancaster, only two players managing to win their games, the home team, playing on the New Brighton Quarry Viking's green, had eight winners.

Five of the winners on the home green were to single figures and this meant that Wallasey took the vital four aggregate points and the overall match result was 16-16.

The best win for the home team was a brilliant 21-05 by NB Queens Royal's Ian Hazlehurst while NB Quarry Viking's Mike Havern and Jamie Box were the away winners.

This year's winners of the Wirral and District's Ashman Pairs was the pairing of Jamie Smith and Ritchie Finch who both play for Gladstone.

In the final at Cammell Lairds on Saturday, they played Tixall's Dave Gilmore and Anthony Thompson.

The Tixall pair made by far the better start and at one stage led 9-5 but a tremendous fight back saw Smith and Finch take the next six ends to run out 15-09 winners.
