LEAGUE Division One leaders, Newton, maintained their fine run of form and went two points clear at the top, as a result of Saturday's 3-1 eclipse of Helsby.

In-form marksman Dom Coddington was joined on the score sheet by Lee Kissock and Jack McDowell, as the Millcroft outfit recorded their fifth consecutive victory.

In midweek, Kissock' boys secured a hard-fought 2-1 result over previously unbeaten Mallaby.

Second-placed Cammell Laird 1907 Res. romped home 5-1 against Hale on Wednesday, but met stiffer resistance at the weekend, against Heswall, who had Andy Kingam on the mark, in a 1-1 stalemate. Jack Ford replied for Lairds.

A Simon Andrews penalty, seven minutes from time, saw third-placed Chester Nomads take maximum spoils from a gritty contest with West Kirby & Wasps on Friday and on Saturday.

Goals from Maghull's Kieran Turner and Brad Smart were negated by replies from Mallaby's John Hedges and Jordan Costello.

In Division Two, Jamie Matthews struck twice for Vauxhall Motors Res. but his efforts were in vain after unbeaten leaders, Richmond Raith Rovers, made it five wins on the trot after Billy MacDonald, Ally Birmingham and Ted Clements netted in a 3-2 triumph.

Kirkby Town Railway stayed in contention when John Egerton's fine double helped them to a 4-1 win at Marshalls.

Further efforts from brothers Josh and Terry Naylor completed the statistics, while respective scorers in Willaston's 3-3 nail biter with Ashville, were Trevor Worsley, Elliot Cullen, Dave Lyon, Lee Healey (2) and Callum Evans.

Despite a goal from Andy Scarisbrick, Prescot Cables Res. capitulated 2-1 to replies from Maghull Res' Farshad Parvas and Mark Madden.

Saturday's Division Three action saw Helsby Res. open up a three point lead at the top, after Kevin Hughes and Jamie Bignall obliged in a 2-1 win against nearest rivals, Heswall Res who had Gordon Harrison on target.

Hat tricks from Jackson Ellis and Brett Adamson inspired Bootle Res. to an impressive 8-2 verdict over new boys Ellesmere Port Town and in contrast, a solitary strike from Matty Crank enabled Upton AA Res to clinch all three points at Capenhurst Villa Res.

Dale Harris plundered a hat trick for Chester Nomads Res, but had to share the honours with Ben Hodkinson, who followed suit with three for Redgate Rovers Res. in a thrilling encounter which finished 4-4.

The curtain went up on the Youth Division's programme at the weekend, and quickly into their stride, were Mersey Royal Youth, who won 11-0 against Willaston Youth, courtesy of goals from Connor Barton (4), Joe Wright (2), Ryan Biegan (2), Rory Burns, Declan Gallagher and Mike Mylona.

Another side in goal hungry mood, were West Kirby & Wasps Youth, whose 9-0 rout of Ellesmere Port Town Youth featured a five goal salvo from Danny Glover.

Tyler Davies, Lewis Willingham, Danny Hardman and Danny Curran also made the scoresheet.

Thomas Brady netted the game's only goal as Belfry Youth won 1-0 at Cammell Laird 1907 Youth, while four-goal Josh Jessop was the man of the moment, as Remyca Youth beat Vauxhall Motors Youth 5-2.

Ollie Lloyd and Ross Waring scored the Motormens' consolations.
