BROMBOROUGH Golf Club veteran Charlie Abbott, 77, has successfully defended the Tom Wolfenden Over-65s' Trophy at the autumn meeting of the Society of Liverpool Golf Captains held in Nottingham.

With a score of 108 Stableford points over the three-day competition, he retained the trophy and helped Bromborough into second place in the overall team event.

Charlie’s success meant Bromborough have won the trophy for the last four years as well as being winner or runner-up in the team event.

Peter Darch, 2012 captain, won the same trophy in his year of office and again in 2013.

Charlie, 1986 captain of Bromborough Golf Club, said: “My success is evidence that golf is a game that can be enjoyed from cradle to grave and played by people of all shapes and sizes, provided they acquire a good basic technique.

"The year 2016 will be my 50th year of playing and I would love to be able to make it a hat-trick."
