Tranmere made it back-to-back wins in the National League as Andy Mangan's goal secured all three points for Rovers against Cheltenham.

The striker took his chance when it came his way following Lois Maynard's flick-on.

Mangan had space to turn and shot from ten yards out in the 93rd-minute to give the club victory in what manager Gary Brabin admitted had been a tough game.

Both sides had chances in the first half with Cheltenham's Kyle Storer clearing off his goal line and then having an effort blocked by Matt Hill.Amari Morgan-Smith had the ball in the net for the home side, but was offside.

Brabin said it was a hard-working display: "It was a tough game. If it had gone either way, the losing side would have been frustrated. Fortunately for us, it has gone our way.

"It was a great strike by Andy Mangan. He worked tirelessly today. He had a couple of chances which didn't quite work for him but the timing of that one was perfect and it was a really good finish."

The manager explained the situation with James Norwood which saw the striker miss out through suspension.

He said, "James Norwood was suspended by the FA for something which happened last season at his former club. There was nothing we could do about it.

"We have been aware of it for a while but we were not aware of it when we signed him, it's out of our hands."

Mangan told Tranmere Player: "It was a massive three points for the lads. Winning the game like that feels like gaining six points, it gives the lads an extra boost. What a way to win it.

"I said to Jay (Harris) and Jenno (Steven Jennings) on 92 minutes that if I get a chance I'll bag it and luckily enough for me it came and I've shanked it in to be honest! I'm over the moon.

"I've thanked Lois Maynard because that's the second goal he's set me up for now. He's such an unselfish player for the team, he's played a number of positions and he's got his reward by setting up the winner and I hope he continues doing that."

The result was Rovers second win on the bounce after overcoming Aldershot 3-1 on Tuesday evening, and saw Tranmere climb to sixth position in the league.

Rovers entertain Bromley next Saturday at Prenton Park.
