AFTER four weeks on the road in National Two North, Caldy made their first home appearance of the season a winning one.

It finished 41-18 against Broadstreet and leaves the Paton Field outfit in joint third place in the table with four wins and one defeat to date.

Sedgley Park head the division from Macclesfield. Leicester Lions and Sandal are on the same points as Caldy.

Saturday's scoreline was possibly harsh on Broadstreet who played their part in an enjoyable encounter.

A couple of tries via Forbes Edwards and a third from Jack Collister, plus conversions via Jack Lavin and Gavin Roberts and a Lavin penalty, earned Caldy a 22-8 interval advantage.

Broadstreet had opened the scoring with a penalty and also registered a try at the start of the second quarter.

John Weir and Derek Salisbury each crossed with both conversions from Roberts and there was also a sixth try in the last move of the match to stretch the advantage.

Broadstreet managed one more try after pressure from a lineout and surely they must start winning soon.

Birkenhead Park in National Three North could not match leaders Sheffield Tigers but collected a bonus point in a 53-24 reverse at the Upper Park.

It was the Tigers backs who did the damage but Park knuckled down well in the second period to reach four tries in all.

Matt Walls, at first on the wing and later in the back-row, scored two of them. Lawrence Thomas and Peter Doolan also went in and Dave Hall added two of the conversions.

New Brighton accounted for Wigan 27-7 in South Lancashire/Cheshire One at Hartsfield and claimed the bonus point, but there were defeats for Anselmians 40-20 against Douglas and Hoylake 39-5 at home to Bowdon.

Port Sunlight took the Merseyside West derby against Prenton 30-12. Wallasey came away winners 15-5 from Ellesmere Port.

Oxton Parkonians were crushed 62-0 by leaders Ruskin Park and Oldershaw fell 33-7 at home to second-placed Southport.

There is another full league programme this Saturday with the leading Wirral clubs all travelling away.

Caldy head for South Leicester, Wirral for Burnage and Birkenhead Park for Lymm.

There is an Anselmians v Hoylake derby whilst New Brighton journey to Cheshire rivals Winnington Park.

Other matches include Ellesmere Port v Liverpool University, Port Sunlight at Ruskin Park, Oxton Parkonians at Southport, Oldershaw at St Edwards and a Wallasey - Prenton derby.
