The quarter-final matches of the Cheshire Association's Brunner Cup Competition took place on Saturday.

Gladstone have been the runners-up in this tournament for the last two years and on Saturday they progressed to the next stage by beating the Castle Private Club, 203- 186, on the green at the Grapes in Runcorn.

This means they next play Frodsham Red Lion in the semi- final on July 23. Let’s hope they can go all the way this year.

Upton Victory Hall's Tony Cavanagh came through the Merseyside qualifying round of the Veterans' Jack and Jean Isherwood Tournament to qualify for the finals, played in Prees, Shropshire, last Wednesday.

He played the runner-up from the previous year, Noel Burrows from Cheshire, in the final.

Cavanagh led 17-13, but could not quite hold on and lost a close encounter.

The final of the Wirral and District Graham White Competition between Gladstone 'B' and Lever Club 'B' was played last Wednesday on the Magazine's green.

Gladstone 'B' from the Birkenhead League’s first division had to give their third division opponents a 48 start, but three tremendous single figure wins from John Gomersall Jnr, Luke Sandland and Thomas Raybould helped them overcome the handicap and, despite a fine 21-06 win for Graham Motley for Levers, they took the win.
