TRANMERE Rovers manager Gary Brabin says consistency will be key if his squad is to have any chance of promotion this season.

During a press conference at Prenton Park ahead of this weekend's home game against Eastleigh, he said that although really happy with his side's start to the 2016-17 campaign, he would not not be getting carried away with results.

Rovers picked up two 2-0 victories in their opening two games of the season, away to Bromley and at home against Barrow.

But as far as Brabin is concerned, this is no time for players to rest on laurels.

He said: "The start is what we wanted but also what we expected as well.

"We set our standards high and we had a good pre-season so it was about carrying it on.

"It's all about getting the same performance and result against Eastleigh on Saturday.

"It's a good start but that's all it is.

"The main thing though is to consistently do it and we've started well with two wins and two clean sheets so we need to continue that."

Assessing tomorrow's opponents, Brabin continued: "Eastleigh will have strong aspirations of sustaining a challenge for promotion this season so we're expecting another tough game but that said, we're always confident going into any game."

The buoyant start to the season is reflected in positive atmosphere off-pitch.

A fact acknowledged by defender Lee Vaughan.

During Thursday's press conference, he said: "It has been a great start for us performance wise and results wise so far.

"I don't think we could have asked for any more.

"I feel that we're stronger this season having most of the squad played together last season.

"We're a tight knit group and a small squad but every player we have you can see as a first team player.

"There's a bounce in everyone at the moment and we'll try to do the same again on Saturday.

"Having said that, we're still nit picking and looking at things we can improve on."
