LAST season Wirral RFC were defeated by Stockport twice in the league but on Saturday with a much changed side they managed to have the game won by half time.

It was Stockport who started the stronger with a well taken backs try after three minutes and the visitors could have scored more before Wirral got thoroughly engaged in the game.

Eventually the pressure from Wirral told with Joe Adnams scoring in the corner after good work from Tom Akehurst.

In the period up to half-time, Wirral scored three further tries with touchdowns coming from Dan Harvey, Akehurst and Rhys James, with each converted by Mark Williams making the score at half time 28-5 to Wirral.

In the second half, Wirral let their three substitutes play and despite pressure were unable to score again despite dominating both the play and the possession.

In the last minute of the game, Stockport scored a good try to make the final score 28-10.

The win sees Wirral climb to sixth in Regional One North West but they face a stiff challenge next Saturday when they are away at unbeaten league leaders, Blackburn.
