A MUCH-CHANGED Wirral side from last week overcame Manchester 31-24 in a match that they should have won far more easily than the score suggests.
Too many mistakes prevented Wirral from adding to the score but gave them a lesson pending the derby match next week against Anselmians, at their Eastham ground.
It was Wirral who took the early lead playing against the wind when Dan Harvey crossed for a try and then goaled.
With the benefit of the wind in the first half, Manchester were able to spend time in the Wirral half and two scores from them before half time left Wirral leading 14-12 having scored a second try through Mark Edwards.
In the second half Wirral extended their lead to 31-12 with tries from Hayden Long and another from Mark Edwards, all suitably converted by James Annetts.
Towards the end of the game Wirral made a number of player changes which enabled Manchester to score two late tries, one with the last play of the game. Wirral continue in sixth place in the highly competitive Regional 1 North West league.
