FIGHTERS at a Wirral gym are celebrating after a successful end to the year.

Bromborough-based Trident Martial Arts saw two of their MMA fighters - Jack McLeod and Billy Adams - both win their debut bouts

Trident MMA’s Jack Mcleod and Billy Adams left with their hands raised after debut bouts at the Full Contact Contender (FCC) in Liverpool.

Prior to their FCC debuts, Mcleod had amassed an impressive 3-1 record, with all of his wins coming in the first round. Whilst Adams made his FCC debut with a strong 4-1 record, plus an active four-win streak that included three first round finishes.

With both prospects Wirral-based, the support was significant at the Liverpool Olympia on December 16 for FCC 36.

Out of the two, Mcleod was first in action. He faced Micky Leithner who was undefeated with FCC and on a five win streak.

After a back-and-forth wrestling-heavy first round, Mcleod was taken to the second round for the first time since December 2022.

However, Mcleod looked relaxed and nonchalant as he met his opponent in the centre of the cage for round two. Leithner engaged in his offensive wrestling which would be his downfall as Mcleod caught his opponent in a tricky grappling sequence, swiftly isolating his opponent's right arm for a violent armbar submission.

Adams faced an equally tough test at FCC36 in Lewis Wood. Wood entered the cage undefeated since his amateur debut, and with four stoppages in his active five-win streak.

Adams started off tentatively against Wood, counterpunching as his opponent moved into range first. However, as the fight progressed Adams was more confident with his longer combinations, and striking from range. In round four he dropped Wood with a pinpoint liver kick, which was swiftly followed by heavy ground and pound.

Whilst the Trident fighter was unable to find the finish, the damage in the final two rounds helped him secure a comfortable unanimous decision to move 5-1 as an amateur.

The weekend’s performances mean that the Trident gym has now gone 10-0 in their fighters results in 2023.  A statement achievement for the gym, and something they will continue to build on going into 2024.
