WIRRAL are sixth in Regional 1 North West after a narrow defeat at Stockport despite a brilliant second half comeback.
It was the home side who used their scrum to their advantage in the first half as they built up a 22-0 lead having scored their try bonus point.
In the second half, Wirral reacted strongly with first a try by Matt Ringer followed by two tries by Mark Williams and another from James Annetts, three of which were converted.
This left the score 27-26 to Stockport with the closing minutes to come and as Wirral attacked again they broke through the defence only for the referee to bring play back instead of allowing advantage to the visitors.
Wirral play third placed Blackburn at home on Saturday kick off 2.25pmy.
