IT is time for our councillors to bring back local democracy and accountability and get West Wirral out from under the boot of Birkenhead.

I read with great interest the 'Local Democracy' letter, being a taxpayer who has had to fund these ego trips.

In addition to slowing traffic to 20mph so it is mixed with cyclists (for their safety!), we have had a third sea wall imposed on us when West Kirby tides are dropping.

It is not yet finished so can we expect to have to fund say £20m in the end?

'Public servants' seem to be rewarded in proportion to their excess waste of taxpayers' money!

Given the third wall was promoted by the climate emergency committee, it is strange that they have never told us how much CO2 their cunning scheme has generated.

Perhaps their role is to create a climate emergency?

To review the 'Local Democracy' for West Wirral ...

  • No vote on joining Merseyside and being taken out of Cheshire.
  • No vote on losing our local Hoylake Council and hence responsible and accountable councillors.
  • No vote on being made part of a unitary authority dominated by Birkenhead.
  • No vote on becoming part of Liverpool City Region (Merseyside Part II) with the added expense.
  • No vote on whether we wanted a Metro Mayor and all the expense.

We in West Wirral can no more vote out the Birkenhead block responsible for wasting millions than we can vote out Putin!

Surely enough has been wasted by a council claiming to be penniless.
